Sound Lock: Useful for Late Night Movie Watching

Don’t want to disturb others while watching a movie late at night? Instead of putting your headphones on, give Sound Lock a try.

It is late at night, I can’t sleep, so I decide to pass the time by watching a move. I adjust the volume so that it’s loud enough to hear the dialog, to hear the characters talking, but not loud enough to disturb my housemate sleeping in the other room. But when an action scene commences, when the main character starts shooting the baddies, the volume is loud enough to wake the neighbors across the street, let alone my housemate. I hate it when that happens, but I don’t want to put my headphones on. So what can I do?

An answer for this precise question comes from 3 APPES, company founded by Jernej Hartman back in July 2011 and located in Slovenia. This innovative company came up with Sound Lock, a software application that comes in handy when you’re watching movies late at night and you don’t want loud sounds to be a problem.

What Sound Lock does is it limits the maximum volume coming out of your PC’s speakers. Or to put it in other words, it lets you limit the sound output level of the playback. You set a loudness level, and if during the playback the sound level goes over that threshold, Sound Lock decreases the loudness of the playback to the level you set.

So you can set it so the volume is loud enough that you can hear what the characters in the movie are saying. When the action scenes commence and the volume is loud enough to wake the dead, Sound Lock steps in and decreases the volume. You can watch the movie safe in the knowledge that you won’t get any grumpy looks from your housemate the next morning.

You can get the Sound Lock application straight from the developer here.
The application is freeware.
