Sophos, company that comes up with award winning security software and hardware, has recently announced that it released a free virus detection and removal tool. For no money whatsoever, this tool will scan your Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7-powered machine and it will detect and remove viruses and more.

The application is meant to provide peace of mind for those times when you have the sneaky suspicion that your computer is infected with a virus yet your currently installed antivirus solution fails to find anything. The free Sophos Virus Removal Tool works alongside your existing antivirus and removes viruses, spyware, rootkits, and fake antivirus.

Carole Theriault, head of the Sophos Naked Security news site, explained that using Sophos Virus Removal Tool is child’s play and that this properly good and powerful security solution will use its industrial-strenght antivirus capabilities to disinfect all the annoying viruses, spyware, rootkits and fake antivirus that your current antivirus is having problems with (either can’t detect them, or detects them but can’t remove them).

“For the past year or so, the Virus Removal Tool has been used by some of Sophos's biggest customers to disinfect complicated malware that sneaked onto a poorly protected computer, but this is the first time Sophos has released this tool to the public at large,” said Carole Theriault. “Sophos hopes that this tool will make your lives a little bit easier,” she added.
