Snapchat: Put a Time Limit on Your Messages

With the free Snapchat app for iOS and Android you can put a time limit on what you share with your friends. They have up to 10 seconds to view the message you sent them; after that the message will be erased.

While chatting with friends about personal matters I sometimes get asked to “you have to delete the archive for this conversation and the stuff I sent you, this cannot get back to me or my gf will kill me.” The simple truth of the matter is that you want to be able to convey messages to your friends but sometimes you don’t want to leave any evidence behind. That’s the sort of functionality you can expect to get from Snapchat. You can send a message safe in the knowledge that your friend will be able to see it but not keep it.

What Snapchat does is it lets you send messages that have a time limit on them. Remember how in those old spy movies, there was a “this message will self destruct in 10 seconds” scene? Well, Snapchat is somewhat like that. You can put a time limit of up to 10 seconds on the messages you send to your friends. Once the 10 seconds are over, the message will be deleted from their device and from Snapchat’s servers.

Snapchat Main Features
  • Send photos and videos to friends or groups of friends.
  • The Snaps (that’s the name given to the photos and videos you share) can feature custom text.
  • Set an expiration period of up to 10 seconds on the content you share.
  • The sender is notified if the recipient took a screenshot.
