Smarty Pins is a new game from Google, game that will test your geography as well as your trivia skills. You could say that it is a geography-based trivia game.

You will be asked questions like “In which English city was Stephen Hawking born?” You will then have to take a pin, drop it on the correct geographical location, and submit your answer. Get it right and you get funny messages, like this one: “Remember the teacher who said you’d never amount to anything with online trivia games? You showed her!”

The game gets you started with 1000 miles or 1600 kilometers. The goal is to answer as many questions as you can before you run out of miles/kilometers. Here’s a sample question from the game: “The ancient city of Pompeii can be found near which modern day city?”

To answer the question, you must take a pin and drop it on the correct geographical location. For the aforementioned question, the correct location is Naples. Get it right quickly, and you earn bonus miles. Get it wrong and you lose miles. If you’re 15 miles away from the correct location, you lose 15 miles.

Amusing messages will be presented if you get it right. Things like “Wow, did you Google that?” or “Remarkable! Did you major in Geography or just minor in Luck?”
Amusing messages will be presented if you get it wrong. Things like “Wrong but at least you're on the right continent. That's something, yeah?” or “Did you sneeze? (It can affect the margin of error by up to 50km.”

The questions are grouped into several categories: March Madness, World Cup trivia, arts & culture, science & geography, sports & games, entertainment, history & current events. You will be asked questions from all the categories. But, if you want to, you can pick just one category and you will be asked questions from that category alone.

As you play the game, you will earn prizes. For example, get 5 questions right and you earn The Bronze Pin.
When you’re done playing the game, you can share your score via Facebook, Twitter, or Google+.
