Skype Taking Its Time on BlackBerry Version
Things are simple for iPhone users. The Skype for iPhone app has been around for quite some time now. All the users have to do is get the app from the App Store and use it to get in touch with their friends. But what if you have a BlackBerry and not an iPhone? Are things just as easy? The simple answer is no. If you have a BlackBerry smartphone, you’re just left staring at the walls.
Skype did announce they are working on a BlackBerry-specific version of the IM (instant messaging) and VoIP (voice over IP) client. They announced this about 9 months ago. If my girlfriend told me she was pregnant when Skype announced Skype for BlackBerry, I would be a daddy by now. Strike that. If my neighbor had told me his wife is pregnant, he would be a daddy by now. And I would go visit the little darling. Okay, getting back to Skype for BlackBerry, we have to ask: what happened?
Unfortunately Skype’s answer is that due to unforeseen problems the development of Skype for Blackberry has been delayed. You’ll just have to hold tight, Skype for BlackBerry will be released sometime in the future. As General Manager for Mobile with Skype, Russ Shaw explained, the team is working on Skype for BlackBerry, but they’re not ready to share the app with the public just yet.
“I'd like to reassure all of you who've been waiting patiently for our apps for the Nokia N97 and BlackBerry smartphones. They're on their way, but unfortunately we've faced delays beyond our control in getting them to you. The BlackBerry app is in private beta testing at the moment, and we're working hard to create the best possible Skype experience on both of these devices. When they're ready, you'll be among the first to know,” said Russ Shaw.
