Do you know what day is today? If you answered “today is the 14th of February, it is Valentines Day”, you couldn’t be more right. Today is also the day when the Mobile World Congress starts in Barcelona. It kicks off today, on Valentines Day, and comes to an end later this week, on the 17th of February.

To celebrate the launch of the Mobile World Congress, Skype has decided to show users some love – in the form of free WiFi. “To celebrate Mobile World Congress, we’re giving away free WiFi through Skype Access, the single-click Internet access feature, across Spain for the duration of the conference,” announced Shadi Mahassel, Product Manager for Skype Access.

Normally, with Skype Access, you would have to pay for WiFi access using Skype Credit – if you have a connection to a Skype Access compatible hotspot and the latest Skype version (that would be Skype 5.1 for Windows and Skype 5.0 for Mac which recently graduated out of Beta).

You can forget about paying and you can keep your hard earned money in your pocket because from 00:01 CET on the 14th February until 23:59 CET on the 18th February, Skype Access will be free to use for up to 60 minutes. From Skype Access-enabled WiFi hotspots in cafés, hotels and airports across Spain you will be able to make free Skype-to-Skype voice and video calls, you will be able to send emails, and you will be able to surf the web and visit your favorite sites.

“We'll also be providing free WiFi through Skype Access at our stand at Mobile World Congress. Pay us a visit in the App Planet, Hall 7 Stand 7D49,” added Shadi Mahassel.

This is not the first time that Skype offers free WiFi. Just last week, between February 7 and February 12, in honor of Social Media Week it offered free WiFi in cafés, hotels and airports in New York, San Francisco, London, Rome, Paris, Toronto, São Paulo, Hong Kong and Istanbul.
