Last week we were reporting that Skype updated its Skype for Mac client to version 5.2. The new version brought with it improved multitasking, an enhanced sidebar, added support for Mac's built-in HD and Logitech's B910 HD cameras, and the best part, group screen sharing (users who have a Skype Premium subscription can share their screen during a group video call).

Today we are glad to report that the Skype Team has shared its top tips and tricks from Skype 5.2 for Mac; its top 12 tips and tricks to be more precise. Here they are:

– The call control bar displays a mini-window that floats in top of files and applications. So if you need to switch to another app while talking to someone, you can keep seeing that person even if you switch to another app. Double click the mini-window to return to Skype, mute the conversation from the mini-window, or end the call from the mini-window.

– If you want to switch between conversations, you can easily do that by swiping the trackpad with three fingers.
– Pres CMD + Shift + U to mark a message as unread.
– Press CMD + Shift + M to mute a conversation.
– Hold Ctrl + Option + CMD + Up arrow to talk while on mute. This works when Skype is open as usual and when you’re using the call control bar (Skype is minimized).

– Press CMD + Shift + E to edit the last message.
– Increase the size of the input box by clicking and dragging the top part.
– Hold CMD + and a small sidebar window will show up, window that shows you who’s online. This comes in handy when you’re busy with other things, but you still like to keep an eye on your Skype contacts.

– Press Shift + Enter to start a new line in the input box.
– Easily open the dial pad by pressing CMD + 2. This will come in handy when you want to call landlines/mobiles or send text messages.
– Press CMD + W to close a conversation.
– Double click the current image, then select a new picture to assign a new avatar. Double click the current title and enter a new one if you want to give someone a new title.

“Currently, our most popular tricks and tips are number 5 (Push to Talk) which makes Skype work like a walkie-talkie when you're on mute, and number 10 (Dial pad) which helps you make internet calling to a landline or mobile without taking your hands of the keyboard - surprisingly, a huge timesaver,” explained Head of Social Media with Skype, Jennifer Caukin.
