As a big fan of the Civilization games and as a big fan of turn-based strategy games, it is my pleasure to announce that Sid Meier is working on a new turn-based interstellar strategy game. Called Sid Meier’s Starships, the game will be released in spring 2015 for PCs, Macs, and the iPad. No word yet on an Android version or on how much the game will cost.

If you are a fan of interstellar strategy games, if you’re drawn to turn-based strategy games, then I have some good news for you: Sid Meier’s Firaxis Games studio and 2K Games will release a new turn-based interstellar strategy game this year. The game in question is called Sid Meier’s Starships and is in fact scheduled for an early 2015 release.

Here are the main things we know about the game right about now: you can explore the galaxy to complete various missions, you can control a fleet a starships, you can use customizable ships in turn-based battles, you can build a planetary federation, you can collect resources and research futuristic technology. The game will be available for PCs, Macs, and the iPad. We don’t know if there will be an Android version and we don’t know how much the game will cost.

The latest Civilization game, Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth, served as an inspiration for the new Starships game.

"When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth," Meier said. "What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth? My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."
