After entering a partnership with LyricFind and adding support for lyrics, Wolfram Alpha is now giving you the chance to win some cool prizes by showing off your lyrics expertise.

“If you’re a big music fan (and who isn’t?), you’ve probably been carrying around a lot of the lyrics to your favorite songs and albums in your head,” said the Wolfram Alpha team. “It’s unlikely that you get the chance to show off that expertise very often, though–but now’s your chance! Cash in your music knowledge for cool Wolfram prizes in the Alpha Albums contest.”

Back in November, computational knowledge engine Wolfram Alpha entered a partnership with LyricFind, the world’s leader in legal lyric solutions. As part of this partnership, Wolfram Alpha added support for lyrics. Search for music on Wolfram Alpha and the computational knowledge engine will present lots of useful information: lyrics, word cloud, recordings, album art, tracklist, releases, Wikipedia page hits history.

It is now the start of December, and I have some interesting news that is related to the LyricFind partnership I mentioned above. The news is that the computational knowledge engine announced the Alpha Albums contest – it is a contest that lets you show off the fact that you’re a lyrics expert.

The Alpha Albums contest goes something like this:
  • The word cloud from a well-known album will be posted on Wolfram Alpha’s Twitter account.
  • You have an hour to check it out and come up with the correct album name. Via an @-reply, you can submit the right answer.
  • A winner will be selected at random from all the people who submitted a correct answer and will receive a prize.

If, once the hour is up, you’re lucky enough to be picked as a winner, you will get to choose the type of prize you get. You can pick any Wolfram Alpha app for iOS, including Course Assistant, Professional Assistant, Personal Assistant, or Reference apps. If you don’t want an app, you can get a free month of Wolfram Alpha Pro.

Since Wolfram Alpha Pro came up, and since the holidays are just around the corner, I must remind you about this Holiday Deal: sign-up for year-long Wolfram Alpha Pro subscription and you get three additional months for free.
