SetteMaxer 0.5: Tweak and Optimize Windows 7

The good news about Windows 7 Beta 1 is that Microsoft extended its download deadline; the other good news is that if you are looking to tweak the operating system, there is a tool that is simple to use and comes free of cost: SetteMaxer version 0.5.

The thing to keep in mind is that SetteMaxer 0.5 is still in Beta, and the developer issues no warranties that you will not encounter some problems when using it. The other thing is that SetteMaxer is not exactly reinventing the wheel here. It simply provides you with a simple to use interface; the tasks it accomplishes could just as well be performed by the user by tinkering with the registries and services. But since not everybody is skilled enough to do so, SetteMaxer 0.5 is more than welcomed.

SetteMaxer can accomplish a total of 12 tasks, and here they are:
- Optimize Menu Show Delay, which increases navigation speed (all delay values are set to 0).
- Optimize Wait to Kill Services Timeout, which makes for a speedier shutdown or restart.
- Optimize Wait to Kill Applications Timeout, which also helps with shutdown/restart speed.
- Optimize Application Response Timeout, which helps in a speedier shutdown or restart of said application.
- Enable Auto End Tasks:
- Enable Desktop Composition
- Disable AutoReboot on Crash, so you can still go about your business if the problem does not cause the OS to become instable.
- Disable Task Scheduler
- Disable Remote Registry Access
- Disable User Access Control (UAC), which will lower the security level of the OS, but will boost performance and software compatibility.
- Disable Windows Defender, will also impact the security level in a negative way, but will make for a faster running system.
- Fix Settings for Windows Live Messenger, which will resolve the login problems some Windows Live Messenger 8.5 users were experiencing

If you would like to get SetteMaxer v. 0.5, a download location is available here.
