The latest offering in terms of security software solutions from AVG Technologies, the privately held Czech company that specializes in providing security software solutions and is best known for its free antivirus software, is AVG 9.0. Version 9.0 of the antivirus software application comes with significant speed and protection enhancements. But it does not stop there. AVG 9.0 comes with identity theft protection (for US users only - powered by a partnership with Intersections Inc.) and is easier to use than ever before. I almost forgot: it also promises to be cheaper than previous offerings.

CEO of AVG Technologies. J.R. Smith, comments: “AVG 9.0 will provide home computer users with a more powerful and more streamlined solution that adds protection without impacting user experience, taking us back to our core strength of low impact, high performance security. We’ve always believed that everyone has the right to a safe online experience. With AVG 9.0, we are providing first-class assistance to our users in their development of tools and measures for their safety from all of the threats posed by cybercriminals and identity thieves, whether they’re working, playing, banking or shopping on the web.”

Speaking of free security software, there is one other AVG offering that you might want to get: AVG LinkScanner. This piece of software woks alongside your currently installed security product to provide an additional layer of protection against invisible online threats. It analyzes web links for threats and if any threats are detected, AVG LinkScanner stops the download. Proof of how good LinkScanner is lays in its popularity – over 500,000 LinkScanner downloads have been recorded so far.

Head of Public Policy, Investor Relations and Communications with AVG Technologies, Siobhan MacDermott, comments: “A few years ago we had the bad guys almost beaten by blocking their attacks with firewalls, email scanning engines, and some simple heuristics. But then they created ways to exploit the websites that we all visit with a trusted browser. The cyber criminals have become so good at it that even a trained eye can’t tell when a web page might be harvesting your private information or dropping some attack code onto your computer. That changed the game. AVG LinkScanner was created specifically to spot web-borne malware and alert computer users to hostile web pages. In real-time.”
