With the release of Wolfram|Alpha Pro, the team behind the popular computational knowledge engine took a very big step forward. British-born physicist, Wofram|Alpha and Mathematica creator Stephen Wolfram himself announced the release of Wolfram|Alpha Pro earlier this week and called the release "the biggest single step in the development on Wolfram|Alpha since its original introduction." As a little reminder, Wolfram|Alpha was launched in May 2009.

If you’re anxious to get started with Wolfram|Alpha Pro, click this link and start a free 14-day trial. If you don’t have one, you will need to create a Wolfram ID and sign in to start the trial. Once the 14 day evaluation period is over, you will have to pay to keep using Wolfram|Alpha Pro. At the time of writing this, the special introductory price is of $4.99/month and $2.99/month for students.

But if you’re not that anxious and you would like to learn more about what Wolfram|Alpha Pro has to offer, I will five you a quick rundown of its features. Here goes:
  • Upload images, sound files, text files, and other types of files Wolfram|Alpha Pro will analyze and process them based on your specifications.
  • Input numeric or tabular data right in your browser, and Pro will automatically analyze it.
  • A soft keyboard is provided so that you can input mathematical and other symbols.
  • Computable Document Format (CDF) interactivity lets you get dynamic versions of existing Wolfram|Alpha output as well as access to exclusive new content.
  • Zoom in feature lets you get a closer look at the details of any output.
  • You can request extra time on the Wolfram|Alpha computer servers as a Wolfram|Alpha Pro subscriber.
  • Download computations to your machine as CSV, XLS, GIF, SVG, WAV, and other formats (more than 60 are supported). You can also download computational results as a single interactive CDF document of static PDF document.
  • Customize graphical and tabular outputs.
  • Your queries are automatically stored for you in chronological order. On top of that you can save your favorite queries.

“We’ve been able to go a remarkably long way with the basic paradigm of ordinary Wolfram|Alpha. But now Wolfram|Alpha Pro dramatically extends this paradigm—and it’s going to be exciting to see all the new things that become conceivable. But for now, I hope that as many people as possible will use Wolfram|Alpha Pro, and will take advantage of the largest single step in the development of Wolfram|Alpha since it was first launched,” said Stephen Wolfram.
