Samsung Z: The First Tizen-powered Smartphone

The recently introduced Samsung Z is the first Samsung smartphone to be powered by the Tizen mobile operating system. The release of the Samsung Z is part of Samsung’s new policy to reduce dependence on Google’s Android mobile OS. The new Samsung Z comes with advanced web performance and usability, optimal performance with improved memory management, fast startup times, multi-tasking capabilities, and a built-in fingerprint sensor.

  • Operating system – Tizen 2.2.1.
  • Display, dimensions, weight – 4.8” HD Super AMOLED (1280 x 720); 138.2 x 69.8 x 8.5mm; 136g.
  • Processor – 2.3GHz quad core.
  • Memory – 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, microSD slot up to 64GB.
  • Camera – 8MP rear camera, 2.1 front camera.
  • Camera features - Mini mode, Quick Shot, Best Photo, Drama, Panorama, Dual Camera.
  • Connectivity – WiFi, GPS/GLONAS, Bluetooth, USB, NFC, IR Remote.
  • Sensor – accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, Hall, RGB ambient light, Fingerprint Scanner, Heart rate sensor.
  • Ultra Power Saving Mode - the phone stays operational even at minimal battery levels
  • S Health – tools to stay fit and well are offered by the enhanced S Health 3.0. It features a comprehensive personal fitness tracker, a pedometer, built-in heart rate monitor, and other tools.

The first country to get the new Tizen-powered Samsung Z is Russia. As Samsung explained, Samsung Z will be available in Q3 in Russia. The smartphone will be rolled out to other countries after that.

Samsung Z users will get apps from the Tizen Store.
