Samsung Presents the Mini Version of the Galaxy S5

If you like the Galaxy S5 but you want something a bit smaller, then I have some good news for you: Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy S5 Mini.

Samsung unveiled the fifth generation of the Galaxy S series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, back in February (the device went on sale in April). The Galaxy S5 comes with a larger display, a better camera, a more powerful processor, and a longer lasting battery. The main things you need to know about the Galaxy S5 are presented here. This July, Samsung unveiled the Mini version of the aforementioned Galaxy S5. Even though it is a compact device, the Galaxy S5 Mini delivers the same powerful performance, features the same dedicated fitness tools, and has the same protection features as the Galaxy S5.

“We always strive to develop devices that appeal to a range of consumer tastes and styles.” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics. “The Galaxy S5 mini allows consumers to enjoy the iconic design and essential and useful features of the Galaxy S5 through a maximized minimalism approach.”

Galaxy S5 Mini – Hardware Specs
  • Design: contoured shape and perforated pattern on the back cover, just like the Galaxy S5.
  • Dimensions and weight: 131.1 x 64.8 x 9.1mm, 120g.
  • Display: 4.5” HD (720 x 1280) Super AMOLED.
  • Processor: Quad Core 1.4 GHz.
  • Memory: 1.5GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, microSD slot up to 64GB.
  • Camera: 8.0 MP AF with LED Flash rear camera and 2.1MP (FHD) front camera.
  • Connectivity: WiFi, NFC (LTE version only), Bluetooth, USB, GPS, IR Remote.
  • Sensors: accelerometer, digital compass, gyro, proximity, hall, ambient light, fingerprint, heart rate sensor.
  • Battery: 2,100mAh
  • Colors: Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold. These four color options will be available at launch.

  • Android 4.4 KitKat operating system
  • S Health: tools to stay fit and well are offered by the enhanced S Health 3.0. It features a comprehensive personal fitness tracker, a pedometer, built-in heart rate monitor, and other tools.
  • Google Mobile Services: Chrome, Drive, Photos, Gmail, Google, Google+, Google Settings, Hangouts, Maps, Play Books, Play Games, Play Newsstand, Play Movie & TV, Play Music, Play Store, Voice Search, YouTube.
  • Kids Mode that lets you restrict access to apps and media content.
  • Camera features: Shot & More, Virtual Tour Shot, S Studio.
  • Ultra Power Saving mode.
  • Connectivity with the latest Samsung wearable devices.
The Galaxy S5 Mini goes on sale in Russia starting in early July.
The device will later be rolled out globally.
