Lend a helping hand, be part of an advanced scientific research by using the Samsung Power Sleep app for Android to donate bits of your mobile device’s processing power. The CPU power you donate will go to a large supercloud and will be used to power scientific research – mind you, scientific research on curing diseases, like Alzheimer’s and cancer.

So why not do some good while you sleep? Why not help researchers in their fight against diseases? Get the Power Sleep app and donate part of your Android’s processing power.

Do some good while you sleep – that is what you can do by getting Power Sleep, an Android app developed by Samsung in collaboration with the University of Vienna.

While you sleep, the app takes part of your mobile’s processing power and donates it to a large supercloud computer. This computer is used by researchers at the University of Vienna to decrypt protein sequences. The decrypted sequences are then used to help find a cure for diseases like cancer or Alzheimer’s.

That’s the “do good” part of the app’s functionality. Let’s focus now on what else you get from the free Power Sleep app. Power Sleep is an alarm clock app. It functions just like an alarm clock. Set it to wake up you at 8 in the morning for example, and the app will do just that. There’s not much more to say from this point of view.

And now, a word from Dr. Thomas Rattei, Professor of Bioinformatics at the University of Vienna, for all Android users out there who are concerned about privacy.

“Power Sleep does not access personal data of any kind,” said Dr. Thomas Rattei. “What comes back into the servers, as a result of the calculation process of the individual devices, are only numerical values relating to protein calculations. It is very important to us that the process is transparent, based on a true open-source collaborative platform.”

Samsung Power Sleep is available for download in the Samsung App Store and Google Play Store.
