Rumor Mill: iTunes 9 with Support for Twitter, Facebook, Blu-ray, iPhone App Organizer

The latest stable version of iTunes, Apple’s proprietary digital media player app, is version 8.2 (which broke Palm Pre’s syncing capabilities, only until Web OS 1.1 was rolled out). Rumor on the web has it that the Cupertino-based software developer is working on implementing a few very interesting enhancements to iTunes v.9.

The ones that have been tipped off about iTunes 9 are the guys over at Boy Genius Report: “We’ve just received a tip from a pretty reliable source that detailed for us some of iTunes 9’s upcoming features and they’re pretty exciting. Even though we weren’t given a timeframe on a possible release, that yearly Apple iPod event around the September timeframe would most likely be a reasonable place to expect this sort of announcement we believe.”

Here are the interesting new bits you can expect to get with iTunes 9 if the rumor turns out to be true:

Blu-Ray support
You will be able to use iTunes 9 to play Blu-Ray discs. This rumor goes hand in hand with the one that Apple will integrate Blu-Ray in its new iMac line-up.

Facebook and Twitter integration
The rumor has it that iTunes 9 will somehow integrate popular micro-blogging site Twitter and social networking site Facebook – and Last.FM. Details are a bit sketchy on this one, but it is believed that you will be able to broadcast the song you are playing to your Twitter or Facebook friends.

iPhone App Organizer

The simple truth of the matter is that iTunes, at this point in time, does not provide a properly good way of organizing your apps. And when you have lots and lots of apps, you will see why organizing them would be to your advantage. iTunes 9 will come with a means to visually organize and arrange all your iPhone/iPod apps.

Let’s hope that when September rolls around Apple will confirm these rumors. Until then we can only wait and hope.
