Rumor on the web has it that Apple’s development team is about to put the finishing touches on Mac OS X 10.5.7 and release this update to the world by the end of the week (which is just two days away). If the rumors hold true and the updated Mac OS X is released this week, wouldn’t that be good news for software fans all over the world? The Mac OS X getting updated on the same week that Microsoft’s Windows 7 Release Candidate was released to the general public.

The source of this rumor is online publication Mac|Life: “If you've been champing at the bit for the magic of 10.5.7, according to a super-secret Apple source, your champing can cease on Friday. The newest version of Leopard is slated to fix a slew of networking, syncing and Bluetooth issues.”

Cupertino-based software developer Apple has not responded to this rumor in any way. What we are left with then is an unconfirmed rumor; unconfirmed on Apple’s side, since Mac|Life claims the source of the rumor originates from within the company. The rumor might turn out to be true since the last version of Mac OS X 10.5.7 to be seeded to developers was Build 9J58 – this was on the 29th of April, and the only problems that needed fixing within the operating system were related to iChat and the Safari browser.

Keeping with the “rumor mill” theme we’ve got going on here, it is believed that Mac OS X 10.5.7 will be the last update the Leopard gets before Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard, is released. The Snow Leopard will be showcased this June at the World Wide Developers Convention (WWDC) that debuts on the of June and will come to a close 4 days later, on the 12th of June (details here).

UPDATE: Apple has seeded Build 9J60 to developers. It remains to be seen if Mac OS X 10.5.7 will indeed be released by Friday.
