Rumor Mill: Apple iPhone OS 3.0 to Include Video Editing Tools
From the “I’ve heard it through the grapevine category”, we have some interesting news to report about the upcoming iPhone operating system, the iPhone OS 3.0 which has just reached Beta 2 status in its development cycle and is available to developers only (details here). Amongst the long list of features we are already aware of (and the new changes implemented in Beta 2), the iPhone OS 3.0 will reportedly feature video editing tools as well.
The information, which you are advised to take with a grain of salt as it is just a rumor for now, comes from the Austrian site Benm.at (original post here, translated post here). According to the founder of the aforementioned web page, there are several unused graphical controls within the iPhone’s operating system which lead him to believe they will be later used for video editing purposes. If the information turns out to be accurate, then this would be one more thing to deter users from jailbreaking the iPhone – action which is specifically prohibited by Apple .
What video editing options are you to get from the upcoming iPhone OS 3.0? Here are the details we are currently aware of: grab points so that you can select a moment within the video when playback will begin and where it will end; repeat; tile graphics; edit bar.
The thing is that for quite some time now Apple has not taken the issue of video recording on the iPhone seriously, despite the fact that numerous users have been asking for it. These reports come to confirm previous ones (from 2 months ago) which stated that the iPhone’s hardware will support video recording and video conferences (details here).
In related news, the iPhone is also going to reportedly be fitted with a 3.2 megapixels camera – which is great since the previous 2 megapixels camera would not be as efficient when it comes to video recordings.
