Release Candidate of Linux Mint 13 Is Out
First up, let’s focus on the codename. Linux Mint 10 was Julia, Linux Mint 11 was Katya, and Linux Mint 12 was Lisa. What codename does the 13th edition of the Linux Mint operating system carry? The answer is, drum rolls please, Maya – Linux Mint 13’s codename is Maya.
Lead Linux Mint Developer Clem Lefebvre explained that the name was chosen after his daughter’s name. And his daughter’s name was chosen in reference to the Maya civilization, the character Maya Toitovna from Kim Stanley Robinson’s Mars trilogy, and the German book, comic book series and animated television series “The Adventures of Maya the Bee.”
The aforementioned Clem Lefebvre announced on Wednesday, May 16th, that the Release Candidate (RC) of Linux Mint 13 codename Maya has been rolled out to the public. There are two editions you could get your hands on: the Linux Mint 13 RC MATE Edition and the Linux Mint 13 RC Cinnamon Edition. This means you can choose between the MATE edition, which boasts about being productive, stable and mature, and the Cinnamon edition, which has a modern look to offer.
“These two desktops are among the best available, they’re perfectly integrated within Linux Mint and represent great alternatives to Gnome 2 users. Linux Mint 13 is also an LTS (Long Term Support) release and it will be supported until April 2017,” explained Clem Lefebvre.
Before you go get Linux Mint 13 RC, here’s a quick look at the operating system’s new features:
