Last month the free Qik Video Connect and the paid version Qik Video Connect Plus were rolled out to the App Store. Both applications make it very simple to record, share and stay connected with others via video. The news is that Qik Video Connect for Android has been recently rolled out to the Android Market. By getting this application, Android users can video chat with other Android users or with iPhone users.

“We're excited to announce Qik Video Connect--a new version of Qik for Android and an update to the latest Qik iPhone app. Qik Video Connect has lots of great new features including the ability for Qik users to live video chat with other Qik users across Android phones and iPhones!” announced Skype’s Ben White.

Skype, as you may remember, acquired Qik at the start of the year. At the time Skype’s CEO said that the acquisition of Qik would help Skype to accelerate its leadership in video by adding recording, sharing and storing capabilities to its product portfolio. He also said that by acquiring Qik, Skype could use Qik’s engineering expertise to optimize video transmission over wireless networks.

Getting back to the topic at hand, here is what you can do with the Qik Video Connect app:
- Live video chat with other Qik Video Connect users on iOS or Android.
- Send video emails. Please note that video email is available as a free trial until the 1st of June. After that period you will have to pay a monthly or annual service charge to keep using this features.
- Broadcast to friends on social networks or via blogs; share videos easily to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.
- Send private video messages via email and SMS.
- All recorded videos are automatically uploaded to your online Video Gallery.

The paid Plus version does all those bits and pieces plus a few extras. It lets you use seven real-time effects and filters to enhance your video chat and live video streaming, it comes with simple video editing tools, and it supports HD quality videos.
