Earlier today Trend Micro made the news because it is giving away 1,000 licenses for Trend Micro Online Guardian for Families, a security software solution that puts powerful parental controls in the hands of cautious parents who know they have to provide a safe online experience to their children.

The global leader in network antivirus and internet content security software once again makes the headlines, this time because it has teamed up with Tencent, the largest internet-based service operator in China and provider of an instant messaging service that has more than 600 million registered accounts.

The fact that Tend Micro teamed up with Tencent is good news for the hundreds of millions of Chinese internet users – from a security point of view of course. Now that Trend Micro and Tencent have teamed up, Tencent QQ PC Manager will incorporate the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network cloud infrastructure and thus provide powerful malware detection and removal technologies to the more than 600 million users mentioned above.

Just to put things in perspective, the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network gathers information from the more than 50 billion emails, websites and files it scans and filters every day. That information is used to identify and respond to emerging threats and improve the existing response to known threats. QQ PC Manager 4.6, with the introduction of Trend Micro’s powerful malware detection and removal technologies, has three times better malware detection and cleaning capabilities than previous versions.

“It is our company mission to provide our customers with the best protection against never-relenting, ever-evolving malware threats. We are very pleased to partner with Tencent and to offer hundreds of millions of Internet users in China the same world-class technologies and service Trend Micro has been providing to countless individual and enterprise customers worldwide,” said Oscar Chang, Chief Development Officer and Executive Vice President of Trend Micro Greater China.
