About a week ago we were announcing that Microsoft has put the finishing touches on Vista SP2 RC (Service Pack 2 Release Candidate) and has made it available for download – but only to TechNet and MSD subscribers. Brandon LeBlanc at the time stated a public download will be issued shortly and here it is. Alongside Vista SP2 RC, the Redmond software developer has also put out Windows Server 2008 SP2 RC.

“Last week we announced the Release Candidate (RC) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2. We initially made it available for TechNet and MSDN subscribers. Today, we’re making it available to anyone interested in testing SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 prior to final release. You can download the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RC from our Customer Preview Program site or install through Windows Update using our Windows Update Experience Kit,” Windows Communications Manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, Brandon LeBlanc explained.

Vista and Windows Server 2008 users that have in the past downloaded SP2 Beta should be made aware of the fact that they must first uninstall the Beta and only when that task is completed should they move on to installing the Release Candidate.

Windows Director, Celine Dee comes with additional details: “SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 builds on the advancements delivered in SP1, and simplifies administration by enabling the deployment and support of a single service pack for client and servers. SP2 includes all of the updates that have been delivered since the release of SP1, along with support for new types of hardware and emerging standards that will grow in importance in the coming months.”

Celine Dee has also posted a list of most noticeable Vista SP2 RC changes and enhancements that you are very well advised to check out here.
