BitDefender Mobile Security has recently been upgraded. It got a new Privacy Advisor feature that keeps an eye on your apps and tells you if they abuse you personal info.

Clueful-like functionality has been added by BitDefender to its Mobile Security app for Android. If you’re not familiar with the Clueful app, let me quickly present it to you. Clueful is a free app that analyzes all the apps installed on your Android device. It takes a look at how these apps handle your personal information. The goal is to protect your privacy by letting you know if there are any apps on your device that might misuse your personal info.

BitDefender Clueful – Main Features
  • Performs an In-depth analysis of all the apps installed on your Android and tells you what they do behind your back.
  • On-install Guardian tells you if you want to install an app that does not respect your privacy.
  • Calculates a personal privacy score that tells you how vulnerable you are.
  • Uses the BitDefender Cloud to provide access to the latest info from a growing database comprised of hundreds of thousands of apps that is updated 24/7.
“Your smartphone is probably the most personal device you own, containing private messages, sensitive banking information, personal photos and other data that can leave you vulnerable if handled carelessly,” said Bitdefender Chief Security Strategist Catalin Cosoi. “Meanwhile, the world of apps is still like the Wild West - poorly regulated, chaotic and open to exploitation by unsavory characters. Clueful offers you a solid defense in an often dangerous milieu.”

Getting back to the topic at hand, the news is that BitDefender Mobile Security has been upgraded, receiving a new Privacy Advisor feature. This new feature monitors apps and tells you if they carelessly handle sensitive info, endanger your privacy, deliver unwanted spam, and access private info. You have access to a detailed report that tells you what apps are doing in the background without your knowledge.

“Threats to Android devices are growing rapidly in both number and variety,” said Catalin Cosoi. “Traditional varieties of malware are a perennial, and growing, danger. But new threats are steadily appearing from among the apps users install on their devices. We’ve tooled Bitdefender Mobile Security to deal with all of these issues, and potential new ones, all at once.”
