Precisely two weeks before St Patrick’s Day, Redmond-based software giant Microsoft rolled out a Windows 7 theme that will remind you about Ireland with its top quality images and traditional Celtic sound-scheme. The theme Microsoft rolled out is called Ireland. It is a collection of 17 top quality images that depict the beauty of Ireland.

The images are accompanied by a unique sound-scheme based on traditional Celtic music. To come up with this sound-scheme Microsoft recruited Tom Creegan, member of the Irish trio Crumac who has been playing the uileann pipes for more than 30 years, and Jan Strolle, who has been playing the fiddle for some 20 years now. During all this time Strolle’s been a part of several Celtic bands, like Keltoi, Western Shore and Barking Monkey, a Celtic-rock group.

While recording the sound-scheme, Jan Strolle told Jennifer Shepherd, site manager for the Windows Personalization Gallery, the following:
“This is really a privilege, to get to hear him. He’s truly a master piper. You know, the uilleann pipes are very hard to learn – in fact they say it takes 21 years to become a master. For seven years you’re a beginner; for seven years you’re learning, and then it takes another seven years to perfect your art. My friends who play the pipes say ‘It’s not an instrument, it’s a lifestyle.”

If you would like to get the Ireland theme for Windows 7, you can get it free of charge from the Windows Personalization Gallery here – you can check out a preview at the bottom. The theme, just like the many others hosted on the Personalization Gallery, is offered free of charge – you won’t have to part with your hard earned money to get it. and speaking of getting themes for Windows 7, the personalization gallery is home to more than 100 themes.

The official description of the theme goes like this on the Personalization Gallery:
“Green landscapes, gorgeous seaside cliffs, and mysterious rock formations—it must be Ireland. Download images of the Emerald Isle, as well as Celtic sounds, in this free Windows 7 theme.”

Jennifer Shepherd says “there’s certainly no substitute for hearing live music (or for visiting Ireland in the flesh), but with our new Ireland theme and its custom sound-scheme, a touch of Celtic spirit is as close as your Windows 7 PC.”
