Super Mario Run, the mobile game that Nintendo unveiled at Apple’s iPhone 7 event in September 2016 and published to Apple’s App Store in December 2016, will finally be rolled out to Android. Nintendo of America announced via Twitter that the Super Mario Run game will be released this March (the same month as the Nintendo Switch).

Nintendo did not say when in March the game would be released. But, if you go the Super Mario Run page on Google Play and pre-register, you will be notified when the game is released.

While you wait for Super Mario Run to be released, here are 5 things you should know about the game.

1. It needs constant internet connectivity

You can’t play Super Mario Run offline. The game requires an always-on internet connection to work. So if you’re not connected to the internet, you won’t get past the game’s main screen.

2. Three game modes are available

The three game modes in question are:
  • World Tour – run, jump, get to Bowser and rescue Princess Peach.
  • Kingdom Builder – create your unique Mushroom Kingdom with buildings and decorations that you purchase with coins.
  • Toad Rally – compete against and challenge "ghost" versions of people from all over the world (similar to the time attack modes in Mario Kart).

3. World Tour can be played with just one hand

In World Tour, Mario constantly runs forward. What you have to do is tap the screen to get Mario to jump over obstacles and enemies. Tap once to jump, tap & hold to jump higher.

"Super Mario has evolved whenever he has encountered a new platform, and for the first time ever, players will be able to enjoy a full-fledged Super Mario game with just one hand, giving them the freedom to play while riding the subway or my favorite, eating a hamburger," said Shigeru Miyamoto, the Japanese video game designer and producer who created Mario.

4. Just a small part of the game is free

You can get Super Mario Run for free, but you won’t have access to everything that the game has to offer. To have full access to Super Mario Run’s 3 game modes, you need to pay $9.99. Please note that this is a one-time fee. Pay once and you won’t have to make any additional payments after that.

5. It’s the fastest-growing app in iOS history

According to Apple, Super Mario Run for iOS was the 10th most downloaded app on the App Store in 2016. But keep in mind that the game hit the App Store mid-December 2016.

On the day Super Mario Run for iOS was released, it was downloaded more than 2.85 million times. Three days later, it had been downloaded more than 37 million times. Four days later, it had been downloaded 40 million times. One week in, and Super Mario Run had been downloaded more than 50 million times, making it the fastest-growing app in iOS history.

Despite shattering download records, Nintendo’s decision to charge $10 for Super Mario Run did not go well with the public. Lots of people complained about the high price and gave the game a low rating. Right now, Super Mario Run has a 3-star rating for the current version and a 2.5-star rating for all versions.

As you may already know, Super Mario Run is Nintendo’s first mobile game and second mobile app.

Back in March 2016, Nintendo released its very first mobile app, Miitomo.

In December 2016, the company released its second mobile app and first mobile game, Super Mario Run for iOS.

Come February 2017, Nintendo will roll out its third mobile app: Fire Emblem Heroes for iOS and Android.

"Fire Emblem Heroes is an original strategy RPG about two warring kingdoms in a bitter clash," Nintendo explained in a press release. "As a summoner, players build their army by calling upon popular Fire Emblem heroes from worlds that span the breadth of the series. Players will wage tactical battles streamlined for on-the-go play and level up a mix of new combatants and legendary heroes. Some familiar hero characters will become allies, while others will become enemy generals. Players can enjoy the full majesty of tactical role playing on bite-sized maps designed to fit nicely on a smartphone screen, even when playing in short bursts."

Fire Emblem Heroes will be released on February 2, 2017.
