Multiprotocol instant messaging application Digsby, which provides support for such popular IM (instant messaging) clients such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, and Facebook Chat, has plenty of features to boast about, but portability is not amongst them. A portable version of the software had been put together by Carsten Knobloch a few months ago, but it did not perform very well – handling updates was an issue that broke the app. A lot of time has passed since then, and now we can report that Digsby portable has been updated and it functions properly.

According to the software’s developer, the issues that affected the first Digsby portable version, the one that was made available for download in September 2008, have all been properly addressed. You can now get Digsby Portable and use it with confidence – confidence in that updates will no longer break it – and use it without having to pay a dime. Digsby Portable comes free of charge, so feel free to download it, load it to a portable storage device and take it with you.

In related Digsby news, the 2009 Best IM client Awards saw Digsby take the following positions:
- 2nd place in the “Best 3rd Party IM Client” category
- 2nd Place in the “developers of the Year” category
Even though Digsby did not take any 1st prize, this is not to say that it is not a properly good piece of software – just check out this long list of features if you are not convinced. It all had to do with how many people voted and who they voted for. This year the much coveted Best IM Client of 2009 Award went to the team at Yahoo! for their Yahoo! Messenger IM client – details here.

If you would like to get Digsby Portable, a download location is available here.
Please note that this is the direct download link. The original page (which you can view here) is in German, and translating it somehow affected the download link.
