Every year on the 19th of September, we celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day, a goofy idea that turned into an international phenomenon. It’s the perfect day to play Plunder Pirates on your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Speaking about the iPad, a joke comes to mind.

Why do pirates wear eye patches? Because they can't afford iPads!

Earlier this week Rovio Entertainment published Midoki’s Plunder Pirates game via the Rovio Stars publishing initiative. Available for free on Apple’s App Store, this pirate-themed game has quite a lot to offer. To better put things in perspective, here’s a list of features.

Plunder Pirates – Main Features
  • Custom 3D pirate island – create your very own 3D pirate island and spin it 360Ëš to see its every detail.
  • Fearless pirate crew – recruit a crew of grog-swilling pirates; 10 fearless pirates with unique skills and traits are available for hire in the tavern.
  • Sail the high seas – explore uncharted waters and battle giant sea monsters, sink merchant ships, and unearth hidden treasure.
  • Fight and plunder – as a true pirate, you will get to ransack enemy islands and battle rival captains.
  • Pirate guild – you can either create a pirate guild with your friends or you can join an existing guild.

Rovio proclaimed that Plunder Pirates “is set to raise the benchmark of mobile gaming” and that Plunder Pirates is “the best looking mobile game ever.”

"This new title from Midoki, and published by Rovio Stars, is set to raise the benchmark of mobile gaming. Apple continues to blur the lines between mobile and console gaming. Metal technology in iOS 8 allows Rovio Stars and Midoki to deliver a new level of graphics performance and encourage a new class of games, such as Plunder Pirates," said Rovio.
