Speccy, and I’m saying this to make sure that everyone is on board and knows what the application does, is a free application that tells you what’s under the hood of your computer so to speak. It is a free system information tool offered by Piriform, tool that provides users with a lot of information on every piece of hardware their computer has.

Piriform, the privately owned UK software developer dedicated to creating top quality applications for Windows, has a more popular application to offer – CCleaner, the free app that easily and efficiently removes data that is needlessly taking up space on your computer. Back in February, Piriform updated CCleaner to version 3.04 and included support for Windows 7 SP1 (Service Pack 1), among other things. A detailed list of what’s new in CCleaner 3.04 is available here.

Earlier this week Piriform updated Speccy as well; it updated it to version 1.09. This latest version adds support for Windows 7 SP1 as well. Piriform explained that with this update it focused on improving hardware detection and squashing a few minor bugs Speccy users reported.

According to the release notes, Speccy 1.09 comes with the following new features:
  • Added Windows 7 SP1 support.
  • Added Fan speed and Virtualization to CPU.
  • Added Voltages to Motherboard.
  • Added Shaders and Performance levels to Graphics.
  • Added Hotfixes to Operating System.
  • Improved stability of battery estimation.
  • Added support for multiple network controllers.
  • Fixed crash that could happen with no network controllers.
  • Stability improvements to the memory usage and RAM graphs.
  • Better recognition of Intel 64-bit instruction extensions.
  • Improved socket reading for Foxcon components.
  • Better filtering of Peripherals to prevents duplicates.
  • Minor fixes for GeForce 260 GTX cards.
  • Numerous other small fixes.

If you would like to get Speccy 1.09, you can grab it straight from Piriform here.
