With the Fifa 2010 World Cup kicking off tomorrow, I have to ask you one question: do you have football fever? I know you do, and so does Picnik, the in the could photo editing site acquired by Google back in March. The site, in honor of the World Cup, has recently released a set of soccer-themed photo editing effects. By making use of these effects you can edit an image and show your support for your favorite team. An example is available at the bottom of this article.

Picnik UI Designer, K. Michael Alexander, explains what you can do with the recently released photo editing effects:

“With the new effects, you can add digital face paint, soccer-themed stickers and team flag overlays, customized for each of the 32 qualifying teams. To get started, go to picnik.com and choose a photo to edit — you can upload from your computer or import one of your photos from Picasa Web Albums, Facebook, or other photo site. Pick a team from the pulldown menu, select a Soccer Fever effect you want to add, and edit away.”

There are a big bunch of software applications out there that allow the user to edit an image. The catch is that they need to be installed on your system to work – which is not exactly handy if you have to edit the image while away from your computer. One solution would be to get a portable photo editing application. Or better yet, use an in the cloud photo editing service.

This is where the Picnik site comes in. It offers a lot of tools to help you edit your images. You can for example crop and image, or add interesting effects to it – like the World Cup ones. It is all done in the cloud so you do not have to install anything on your computer. You can visit the Picnik site and edit images no matter where you are; all you need is a computer and an internet connection.
