Personas for Causes: Use Personas to Promote Your Cause

If you want to change the way the Firefox browser looks, if you want to decorate it to celebrate Halloween or Christmas for example, you can easily do that by using Personas. There are numerous Personas to choose from; just go to the Personas Gallery on getpersonas.com or to the Personas Gallery on addons.mozilla.org and you will see what I am talking about.

The news is not that you can use Personas to change the way the Firefox browser looks. The news is that you can use Personas to promote a cause. In the Causes section of the Personas Gallery there are Personas developed by the Firefox community, Personas that promote all sorts of causes, from saving animals to promotion breast cancer awareness.

You can find one that promotes your cause and use it to decorate your browser. Or if you don’t find a suitable Persona, you can create one of your own (find out how here).

“Got a cause? Sure you do! Everyone believes in something. And now you can show that something off in your browser…From convincing the world that skateboarding is not a crime to saving the bees, there’s probably a Persona for your strongest conviction. Personas let you decorate your browser with art (and words) that express who you are and what you believe in,” said Mozilla.

If you go to getpersonas.com, you can be sporting a new Persona in no time at all – once you find a suitable Persona that is. When you find a Persona that suits your tastes, click the 'Wear it' button and in no time at all your browser will be sporting that Persona. If you click the “Wear it” button and seconds later you realize your don’t like that Persona, there is an easy way out. The moment you get a Persona, Firefox displays the “A new theme has been installed” prompt (similar to the ones you get when the browser blocks a popup). From the popup you can click 'Undo' and your previous Persona will be restored, or you can click 'Manage themes' and the Add-ons window will pop up, allowing you to uninstall themes, personas, plugins, and extensions.

Personas are natively supported by Firefox 3.6, which means you don’t have to do anything to be able to use a Persona. Firefox users who are on version 3.0 need to get the Personas add-on to enjoy this sort of functionality. The add-on is available on AMO (addons.mozilla.org) here.

Here are some of the Personas you could get from the Causes section of the Gallery:

Save the bees

Skateboarding is not a crime

Breast cancer awareness

Recycle

ASPCA
