If you find the freemium business model annoying, if you’re not a fan of in-app purchases, then you need to know about Apple’s Pay Once & Play.

This is a new section in Apple’s App Store, section that highlights apps that do not follow the freemium business model. Pay Once & Play is all about promoting apps that do not offer in-app purchases.

There are tons of apps in the App Store that have a freemium business model or pricing strategy. If you’re not familiar with it, here’s a quick explanation: get the app for free, get extra features with an in-app purchase. The annoying thing about this business model is that it puts making money above the user experience. Or to put it in other words, the developer sacrifices playability in favor or making some money.

Apple recently introduced a new Pay Once & Play section in the App Store, section that has nothing to do with the aforementioned freemium pricing strategy. Pay Once & Play promotes apps that ask for money just once. Pay once to get one of these apps, and then enjoy the app on your iDevice. You won’t be presented with any annoying request to make an in-app purchase.

Pay Once & Play carries the tagline “Great Games with No In-App Purchases.” A short piece of text explains what Pay Once & Play is all about: “Enjoy hours of uninterrupted fun with complete experiences spanning the App Store’s most beloved genres. Packed with thrills and unforgettable moments, these powerhouse games belong in every collection.”

Among other titles, Pay Once & Play features the Threes! puzzle game. I remind you that this is Apple’s 2015 Game of the Year.

The titles featured on Pay Once & Play range in price from $1.99 to $15.99, with most titles being priced at $3 to $5.
