Panda Security, company that specializes in providing security software solutions, has recently announced the release of a free, lightweight, easy to use and efficient security solution called Panda Cloud Antivirus. With this release Panda Security touts the fact that all the “heavy lifting” is done in the cloud, so the user does not have to worry about regularly updating the security software, nor does he have to worry about his machine not meeting the minimum system requirements needed for the security solution.

Just to put things in perspective, Panda Cloud Antivirus uses an average of 17MB of RAM and drains 50% less of the machine’s resources compared to the industry average. And low system resource consumption does not mean you get a low level of security. Panda Cloud Antivirus comes with local and remote antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit, heuristics and goodware cache.

“We truly believe that Panda Cloud Antivirus represents a quantum leap in protection over the traditional approach to antivirus. Panda Cloud Antivirus offers consumers a truly install-and-forget solution that delivers the industry's fastest protection against the newest malware with literally half the performance impact. We're excited to make it available today for free, which is Panda's way of paying back to the community and growing our Collective Intelligence network so that we can deliver even greater protection to all customers,” commented Panda Security CEO, Juan Santana.

In related security news, security software vendor McAfee has just launched a free online help center meant to aid potential cybercrime victims (the service is called Cybercrime Response Unit - details here) and the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) has announced it will change the default behavior of AutoPlay in Windows 7 so as to address the way in which malware propagation has evolved (details here).
