The development team behind Paint.NET has announced that Paint.NET version 3.5 has reached an important milestone in its development process: Paint.NET 3.5 has been rolled out as a final, stable software application. Version 3.5 comes with some UI changes, numerous stability tweaks, menu adjustments, enhanced Windows 7 Aero support and much more. We’ll take a look at the changes in Paint.NET 3.5 later. First a word from Rick Brewster, the main guy behind the Paint.NET application:

"Thanks to everyone who helped out with the extensive alpha and beta releases with all the bug reports, crash log submissions, and feedback. It has all been a huge help in creating the best Paint.NET release ever. As usual, there are two ways to get the new version.
1. Use the built-in updater from within Paint.NET
2. Download directly from the web.”

And now, here are the main Paint.NET highlights:
- New icons, new visual styling, enhanced support for Aero and “glass’ for Windows 7 and Vista users; in a nutshell, a revamped UI (user interface).
- New effects: Surface blur, Dents, Crystalize.
- Russian language support.
- Extensively optimized performance and memory usage.
- Disk space usage reduced by about 12MB.
- Improved .PDN image compression.
- More responsive effect dialogs.
- Images open faster (most noticeable on single CPU systems).
- 20% improved startup performance.
- Improved rendering quality for zoomed in images.
- Improved reliability and font selection for the Text tool on Windows XP.
- The Text tool uses DirectWrite on Windows 7. This translates into improved quality and better performance.
- The Text tool’s font manager has been completely rewritten.
- All installation prerequisites are installed automatically.
- Utilities menu has been added.
- Close an image thumbnail by clicking the middle mouse button.
- Updater runs in the background and installs updates when the user closes Paint.NET.
- Fixed various stability issues.
