To make your chats pop, Yahoo! Messenger has a lot to offer. There are emoticons, audibles, and best of all IMVironments, interactive backgrounds that you can add to your IM conversations. When you chat with your significant other for example, you could use the Falling Heats IMVironment that displays, well, falling hearts. But I digress.

The news is that the Yahoo! Messenger team introduced a new IMVironment earlier this week. The name of the new IMVironment is called OurWorld, and as the Yahoo! Messenger team explained, it is meant to bring your virtual world to life. The IMVironment lets you create an avatar and provides a safe virtual space that reflects your personal style. You can chat with your friends in that virtual space, using your custom avatar.

Speaking about your custom avatar, it must be mentioned here that there are more than 30,000 items you could use to customize it, everything from clothing, accessories, hairstyles, and pets. As you chat with your friends, you earn coins – coins that you can use to get new items for your avatar. You also get to level up your avatar as you chat with your friends, and as you level-up you can unlock exclusive new features.

I mentioned above that the OurWorld IMVironment provides a safe virtual space that reflects your personal style. You have a OurWorld condo that you can decorate with the furniture you want. You can move the furniture around and arrange it as you see fit.

To get started with the new IMVironment, just click on the IMVironments tab while chatting with a friend. From the dropdown menu go to Interactive Fun then select OurWorld (check out the image below). In no time at all you will be able to chat with your friends in your virtual OurWorld condo using your customized avatar.
