One of the cool thinks about Opera Software’s Opera Mini web browser is that it can compress data. The browser uses data compression technology to shrink down webpages by as much as 90% and thus ensure that webpages load faster and consume less of your data plan.

Opera Software recently rolled out the new Opera Mini 9 for iPhone and iPad. The cool thing about Opera Mini 9 for iOS is that it can compress videos. It comes with a new video boost feature that gets videos to load faster and consume less of your data plan.

"This is the first time video optimization has been integrated into a web browser, so your browser can now take pride of place as your favorite video app" says Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software. "Video snags are a small problem, but an annoying one — a pothole on the internet highway. And Opera fixed it."

Enable video optimization from the Data Saving Menu and watch more videos on your iPhone or iPad with Opera Mini 9. The browser will ensure that the videos do not stall, the browser will reduce buffering, the browser will ensure you won’t use up lots of your data plan by watching videos. You will be able to watch more videos without getting interrupted by the buffering wheel and without using too much of your data plan.

How is Opera Software compressing videos with Opera Mini 9 for iOS? You may remember that back in February 2013, Opera Software acquired Skyfire. Well, Opera Software leveraged Skyfire’s video optimization technology and Skyfire’s core product Rocket Optimizer to offer its Opera Mini 9 customers the new video boost feature. It is worth noting that this is the first time Rocket Optimizer has been employed within a browser.

Alongside the new video boost feature, Opera Mini 9 comes with a revamped data-savings gauge, extra options for editing Speed Dial website shortcuts, and support for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Opera Mini 9 for iOS is available for download on Apple’s App Store for free.
