IBC 2011, the leading global tradeshow for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of broadcasting media and entertainment, will kicks off today, August 8th, in Amsterdam. IBC will attract more than 1,300 exhibitors and more than 48,000 attendees from more than 140 countries.

The news is that Opera Software, the Norwegian developer behind the Opera web browser, will attend IBC 2011. At the tradeshow, Opera Software will unveil the brand new Opera TV Store. What is it you ask? It is a solution that allows developers to come up with HTML5 apps for connected TVs and devices. OEMs will then be able to get these apps and implement them in their products.

“Apps are a new must-have on TVs,” said Frode Hernes, VP Products, TV and Connected Devices, Opera Software. “With the Opera TV Store, developers can easily build cool and useful apps for millions of TV viewers. And, yet again, Opera takes these apps across devices, bringing games, news, video and audio apps to TVs, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players.”

“Traditionally, the TV has been pretty static as a device. The era when you had to buy more expensive equipment to get new functions in the TV is over,” added Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “New approaches to TV software, such as the Opera TV Store, makes it easier for OEMs to implement smarter functions on connected TVs and content providers to reach a wider audience with their HTML5 apps.”

Alongside Opera TV Store, Opera Software will also present Opera TV Emulator (formerly Opera Devices SDK) at IBC. This is an app that devs can use to make their TV apps work all from within their computers. As Andreas Bovens explained, Opera TV Emulator gives devs a complete package to develop, debug and deply TV apps, all from their computers. On September 15th, Opera TV Emulator will be released to the public; devs interested in getting it can do so at dev.opera.com/sdk/.

If you’re attending IBC 2011 and you would like to check out Opera TV Store and/or Opera TV Emulator, drop by Opera Software’s booth – it’s in Hall 5, B47.
