Opera Mobile to Feature Tjat Widget

Opera Software, the Norwegian organization best known for developing the Opera web browser, has recently announced that Opera Mobile for Windows Mobile and Nokia Series 60 smartphones will soon feature the Tjat mobile-messaging widget. Tjat, For those of you who are not familiar with it, is an IM (instant messaging) portal that puts together some of the world’s most popular IM services and serves them in one easy to use widget. Think of it as a multiprotocol instant messaging app for your Windows Mobile-powered device or your Nokia Series 60 smartphone.

CEO of Opera Software, Jon von Tetzchner, comments: “By integrating Tjat's messaging and e-mail widget into our products, we are able to merge some of the most popular services from around the world into one interface. Tjat shares our 'anytime, anywhere' mentality, as they emphasize convenience, accessibility and options in their product. Together, we hope to improve the way that people communicate.”

Here is what you can do with the Tjat widget:
- Access your IM account, be it MSN, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk or Chikka.
- Access POP3 email clients like Yahoo! Mail or Gmail.
- Access popular social networking sites.

Just to put things in perspective, there are now more than 900 million Tjat accounts. On a day-to-day basis, more than 13.2 billion messages are exchanged via Tjat.

CEO of Tjat, Gideon Drori, comments: “The Tjat strategy is to deliver seamless messaging on any device, in any language, from anywhere. With Opera incorporating our widget into their products, we are able to expand our reach to a broader audience.”

Please note that Tjat is pronounced “chat”. I just wanted to clarify that for you, so you wouldn’t pronounce it otherwise.
