Today, the 27th of February 2012, Norwegian developer Opera Software announced that its Opera Mobile web browser was updated to version 12 and released to Android and S60 devices. Opera Mobile 12 is now available for free download from Google’s Android Market, from Nokia’s Ovi Store, and from Opera’s m.opera.com. Before you go get the application, perhaps you would like to know what new bits and pieces Opera Mobile 12 has to offer.

Here are the main new features in Opera Mobile 12:
  • Support for WebGL has been added. This means that it will be easier to make and distribute cross platform games.
  • Support for Ragnarök, Opera’s HTML5 parser has been added. This means the browser offers better web apps and increased compatibility with websites.
  • Support for camera use in the browser has been added.
  • Support for more than 9 speed dials has been added. The number of speed dial entries is now unlimited.

In related news, developer Opera Software made another interesting announcement today – at the Mobile World Congress (the world’s largest international mobile technology exhibition that takes place in Barcelona, Spain, from until the 1st of March 2012) Opera Software announced a revamped Opera Mobile Store that offers better customization for white-label marketplaces, better distribution and monetization capabilities for developers, and an improved interface that makes it easier to discover and download apps. Speaking of which, there are more than 55,000 in the Opera Mobile Store, making it the 5th largest mobile app store in the world. More than 160 million Opera Mini and Opera Mobile users can access the Opera Mobile store through a speed dial link on the browser’s start page.

Anyone who wants to check out the revamped Opera Mobile Store can visit the Opera Software booth at Mobile World Congress at Hall 1, Booth C44.
