Opera Announces Team Up Competition
Before we get to the Team Up competition that Opera Software announced yesterday, the 9th of May, we must first take a look at Opera 11.50 which is currently in Alpha. Opera 11.50 codename 'Swordfish' comes with several cool new features, one of which being Speed Dial extensions.
Extensions can be installed as Speed Dials. With Speed Dial extensions, developers can create live previews of web pages and other decorations for Speed Dial. Opera Software would like to have a rich catalog of Speed Dial extensions, and this is where the Team Up competition comes in.
The competition goes something like this: the user proposes an idea for a Speed Dial extension; a developer will get in touch with and team up with the user who came up with the idea, then they wil collaborate to turn that idea into a reality. All ideas must be posted online in the comments section at my.opera.com.
Developers who have an idea of their own don’t need to team up with a user. They can simply get started on turning their idea for a cool Speed Dial extension in to a reality.
No competition is a true competition if there aren’t any prizes. Here are the prizes Opera Software announced for the Team Up competition:
Opera laptop sleeve and stickers – for the first 10 Speed Dial extensions that get submitted and approved into Opera Add-ons catalog.
$1250 Cash – this Grand Prize will be split $1000 for the developer and $250 USD for the user who came up with the idea. If the team is comprised of multiple devs and users, the prize will be split among them. The winner of the Grand Prize will be decided by the members of the Opera jury which is composed by Opera employees from the design, marketing and engineering departments.
The Team Up contest started on the 9th of May and will end on the 24th of June at 09:00 CET. All contestants must be 18 or older.
