Opera 17 – Pin Tabs Feature
There are certain tabs that you want to stay open all the time. Opera 17 caters to this need. Right click on a tab and, from the context menu that shows up, you can choose to pin it. By pinning a tab you can ensure you won’t accidentally close that tab. As a little side note, I must tell you that Firefox and Chrome also have a “pin tab” feature.

Opera 17 – Startup Options
Opera 17 puts several startup options at your disposal. From the Settings menu, the On Startup submenu, you can pick one of three options:
  • Continue where I left off - start where you finished last session. This is Opera’s default behavior.
  • Open the Start Page – the Speed Dial will be displayed when you launch Opera.
  • Open a specific page or set of page – pick a single webpage and Opera will load it when you launch the browser. Pick multiple webpages and Opera will load all of them on startup.

Opera 17 – Custom Search Engines
Opera 17 introduces the option to customize your searches. With the aim of helping you search faster, Opera 17 lets you change the keyword to each customized search engine to one-letter shortcuts.

Opera Software’s Blazej Kazmierczak explains:
“For example, to configure "d" to search DuckDuckGo, choose O>Manage Search Engines, and under "Other Search Engines" add "DDG" in the first input field, "d" in the second to define the shortcut and "https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s" in the third. This tells Opera which URL to send your search query to, and "%s" is where it adds your search query. We're working on a search field context menu option to make it even easier to do this.”

Type in the letter d, type in your search query in the combined URL and search bar, and Opera will perform a search via DuckDuckGo.
