On Tuesday, the 6th of December, Norwegian developer Opera Software announced that it has a “gift that changes everything” to offer to the world. That gift is Opera 11.60 which carries the codename “Tunny” (that’s just another name for tuna, a fish that is known for being a fast swimmer and for tasting good on whole wheat).

As Opera Software put it, half of the world’s population never tried a new browser; that includes people you are friends with or people you know. Now that Opera 11.60 Tunny is out, you could help these people experience something new, you could help them try a new browser. Give someone you know the gift of a new browser – a properly good one like Opera 11.60.

Here is what Opera Software’s VP of Desktop Products, Jan Standal, had to say about giving someone the gift of a new browser this holiday season:

“It’s better to give than to receive, so why not give that special someone a new browser. People spend more time working with their browser than they do with their car, so it makes sense to shop around and consider their options. If your best friend drove a Yugo, you’d help them find something else, right? If we were a car, this browser would be an extremely potent, yet comfortable, four-by-four. Sleek and stylish, and with no CO2 emissions whatsoever. Your neighbors will envy you.”

To get a better idea of what Opera 11.60 Tunny has to offer, here’s what’s new:
  • New Star button that lets you easily add your favorite sites to the Speed Dial.
  • New look for the built-in email client. It has been redesigned in accordance to Opera Software’s featherweight design aesthetic.
  • New network code establishes secure connections smarter, thus boosting speed on SSL sites.
  • Improved compatibility thanks to the new HTML5 parser. Support for HTML5 custom scheme and content handlers
  • Better memory management on complex web apps thanks to the new version of the Carakan JavaScript engine.
  • Full ECMAScript 5.1 support.
  • CSS3 radial gradients.
  • A new address field for the Featherweight skin.
