We all know that the internet is a dangerous place. There are all sorts of nasties out there, from viruses and worms to scammers and cyber criminals. As a parent, it is your task to make sure that your children stay safe online. This means you have to set up parental controls to ensure your child doesn’t access something he shouldn’t and it also means having “the talk” with your child – the online security talk that is.

You can get help with that from Trend Micro, company that specializes in providing network antivirus and internet content security software. The company announced that it came up with and released an eGuide that facilitates effective parent-child dialogue on the dangers of the internet.

The simple truth of the matter is that the internet is a great tool and more and more children are increasingly active on computer and on the web. While there are numerous benefits to using the computer and accessing the web, there are also many dangers one should be aware of. The eGuide released by Trend Micro recognizes that there are advantages to being online and points out the many dangers children could expose themselves when going online.

The eGuide helps parents get the conversation started. “We want to prepare -- not scare -- parents and children, because there are so many amazing benefits to learning and exploring on the Internet,” said Natalie Severino, director, consumer product marketing, Trend Micro. “Just as with the original big ‘talk,’ education is key. With this eGuide, we hope that families will gain a better understanding of how online risks look, act and feel like so that they can confidently reap the benefits of communicating and connecting online.”

So if you would like to have “the talk”, the online security talk, with your child or children, check out the eGuide released by Trend Micro. It is available for download here.
