In a previous article, this one, I told you about 3 fun video apps that will keep kids entertained and give you the chance to take a break. While the kids are busy watching some age-appropriate videos, you can take a break, get your thoughts in order, relax and unwind for a little bit.

There is one more app that must be added to the list: BBC iPlayer Kids for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire, a brand new app that is very easy to use and provides access to child-friendly videos. And more to the point, it provides access to CBeebies and CBBC shows.

"Children have always been a priority for the BBC," said Alice Webb, Director of BBC Children’s. "So launching the BBC iPlayer Kids app is a really exciting moment for us – and we can’t wait to see millions of children get excited about it too. The BBC iPlayer Kids app meets the needs we know are absolute deal-breakers for kids and parents. We’re offering choice and control, wrapped up in a child-friendly design and the largest range of home-grown UK content on a platform parents can trust. In a nutshell, the app is CBBC and CBeebies in their hands – a BBC iPlayer re-designed for a new, digitally savvy generation.”

BBC iPlayer Kids – Main Features
  • Tons of kid-friendly content – all of BBC Children’s world-class content, so your child can enjoy both new and old CBeebies and CBBC favorites such as Wolfblood, Blue Peter, The Dumping Ground, Topsy & Tim and Go Jetters. Over 10,000 episodes are being made available this year alone.
  • Age-appropriate videos – by asking the child’s age, the app can serve age-appropriate content from CBeebies and CBBC. Children under 5 will be shown only CBeebies content while children over 5 will be shown both CBBC and CBeebies content.
  • Watch online & offline – when you’re at home, you can easily watch videos online, over WiFi. If you plan to go on a trip and you know you won’t have an internet connection, you can download videos for offline viewing.
  • Multiple profiles – create up to 4 profiles so that siblings can share the same phone or tablet.
  • User friendly design – since it’s meant to be used by children, the app has a user friendly interface that comes with a useful search function. If you know what show your kids want to watch, use the search option to quickly find it. And if you don’t know what show your kids want to watch, go over the A-Z list of all available shows.
  • No annoyances – the app does not show any ads and does not offer any in-app purchases. Furthermore, it has a "safety lock" feature that prevents children from going outside the app.

"We know from research that parents value having a version of BBC iPlayer that’s guaranteed to be free of programming aimed at adults, and that kids love a version of iPlayer that’s designed specially with them in mind. BBC iPlayer is available on over 10,000 devices in the UK for free and we’re thrilled to launch this app so kids can enjoy their favourite shows whenever and wherever they are, in a safe and fun space, packed with amazing content," said Dan Taylor-Watt, Head of BBC iPlayer.

The BBC iPlayer for Kids app is available for free on Apple’s App Store, Google Play, and Amazon.

Please note that the BBC iPlayer is available in the UK only.
