One Million Users Turn to Avast for Free Android Security

Avast Software, the Prague-based company that specializes in the development of security software solutions, has recently announced that its free security solution for Android turned out to be quite popular. Avast! Free Mobile Security, the full-featured anti-theft and anti-malware app for Android-powered devices, has been installed by more than 1 million smartphone users. All that happened in just 16 days after the official launch of the final version of avast! Free Mobile Security.

At the start of December 2011, on the 6th of December to be more precise, avast! Free mobile Security was released to the Android Market as a Beta. In just a few days the Beta was downloaded my more than 100,000 people. On the 22nd of December the application graduated out of Beta – and the number of downloads increased. By January 6th, 16 days after the launch of the final version, avast! Free Mobile Security was downloaded and installed on more than 1 million devices.



“This has been a really fast-paced launch, surpassing the results from competing products,” commented Chief Technology Officer with Avast Software, Ondrej Vlcek. “It required Lookout a full six months to reach the one-million level for their mobile security product.”

“Before we launched avast! Free Mobile Security, we knew that only 30% of our users with Android phones had a security program installed on it, but that over 60% would be interested in the feature set provided in avast! Mobile Security. Reaching the million user mark within 16 days shows that we are meeting users’ needs and expectations,” Vlcek added.

As mentioned above, avast! Free Mobile Security is a the full-featured anti-theft and anti-malware app for Android-powered devices. The app has a lot to offer: real-time protection against threats, scans apps before they are installed, web shield, remotely lock your device and remotely wipe your device, remotely locate a stolen or misplaced device, get notifications when the SIM card is chanced, remotely take pictures if your device was stolen, and much more.
