Oculus VR Announces Plans to Produce Virtual Reality Movies

At the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, virtual reality technology company Oculus VR announced that it plans to produce movies for its virtual reality (VR) headset.

The Facebook-owned company introduced a new subsidiary called Oculus Story Studio, explaining that said subsidiary will be tasked with producing virtual reality movies.

Oculus VR – The Company

Palmer Luckey and Brendan Iribe founded the Oculus VR company back in 2012. This is a virtual reality technology company that aims to revolutionize the way people experience video games by allowing them to immerse themselves in a virtual reality.

Oculus Rift – The First and Main Product

Oculus VR’s first and main product is the Oculus Rift. It is a headset that provides an immersive virtual reality experience. Or to put it in other words, it is a virtual reality headset that lets players step inside their favorite games and virtual worlds.

In partnership with Samsung, Oculus VR came up with another product: Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition. Paired with a Galaxy Note 4, this device lets you enjoy content like never before: breathtaking 360° experiences and stunning virtual reality visuals.

Oculus Story Studio – The Movie Studio

Oculus VR introduced Oculus Story Studio at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Via this studio, Oculus VR plans to explore the potential of what it calls “VR cinema.” Via this studio, Oculus VR plans to produce virtual reality movies.

Amazon recently announced that it will offer its customers a dozen original, prestige movies each year. Starting with 2015, Amazon will produce original movies and will acquire original movies that will be released in theaters. Four to eight weeks later, these movies will premiere on Prime Instant Video in the US.
