“The simple pedometer that inspires”, that is the tagline associated with Noom Walk, a free app that has a social side and takes it easy on your battery.

Noom Walk’s main purpose is to provide an answer to a simple question: How many steps did I take today? To answer that question, the app does not need to use GPS – it uses low-battery-drain sensors and smart algorithms to pick up your movements in the background and count steps 24/7.

So to recap, Noom Walk counts steps without killing your battery and without needing to use GPS. The developer explained that the app uses less than 2% of your battery and that during a full 24 hours of use, it uses as much as 3 minutes of GPS.

Noom Walk’s secondary purpose is to inspire, to motivate you and your friends. You see, the application has a social side. Connect to Facebook or Google+ and the app will show all of your friends that also use Noom Walk; if you don’t want to connect to Facebook or Google+, you can create an account using your email address and you can connect with friends by using their email addresses.

You can view your friends’ profiles, see their achievements, leave comments, and high five daily/weekly/all-time, and record step counts.
