Microsoft is working at full-speed, getting ready to release Windows 10 to the masses. Still, there’s time for a bit of fun. Some ninjacat fun!

For those of you who are not familiar with the ninjacat, here’s the lowdown. This spring, a special laptop sticker was uncovered on Microsoft’s Redmond campus. A sticker of a ninjacat riding a firebreathing unicorn while carrying a Windows flag (pictured above).

Getting back to the topic at hand, Microsoft recently released three background/lock screen images. See below.

And now, as I’ve done for the past two weeks, I’m going to present the latest Windows 10 news. Here goes.

'10 Reasons to Upgrade' video series

Microsoft published several new videos on its Windows YouTube channel, videos that focus on the main reasons why you would want to upgrade to Windows 10.

The first video of the series focuses on the fact that Windows 10 will feel familiar. Other videos from the series focus on Cortana integration, the new Edge web browser, Xbox streaming, and "multi-doing”.

Why Windows 10 is great for gaming

I’m going to keep it short and quickly list the main reasons why Windows 10 will be great for gaming, as announced by The Windows Team:
  • Xbox Live via the integrated Xbox app.
  • DirectX 12 is built into Windows 10 and on top of that Windows 10 gives your PC optimal CPU and GPU output when gaming.
  • GameDVR can record any game you’re playing. Press Win + G to start recording.
  • Cross-device gameplay. Play select games with or against your friends across Windows 10 and Xbox One.
  • Stream games from your Xbox One to your Windows 10 PC, laptop, or tablet.

Microsoft Store celebrations on July 29

Windows 10 will launch on July 29, as I’m sure you already know by now. Microsoft will mark this occasion with various activities in its stores.

All Microsoft stores in the US, Puerto Rico, and Canada will celebrate the launch of Windows 10 with a series of in-store activities and events across more than 110 locations. See here for details.

Windows 10 to be supported until October 2020/2025

The Windows Lifecycle webpage has been updated and according to it, end of mainstream support for Windows 10 will end on October 13, 2020.

And end of extended support will end on October 14, 2025.

Different Cortana flavors for different countries

Cortana integration is one of the main new features that Windows 10 will offer. Microsoft is working on fine tuning Cortana’s personality so that it reflects the country's local flavor.

“Cortana is customized to reflect the local language, idioms and speech patterns of each country. We craft Cortana’s local personality based on insights about each culture while at the same time staying true to the foundational principles that are universal to all markets: Cortana is positive, confident, intelligent and transparent,” said Marcus Ash, Group Program Manager for Cortana on Windows.

Cortana is going global

On July 29, the Cortana personal assistant will debut on Windows 10 in the following 7 countries: US, UK, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

In the months after that, Cortana will be available to customers in the Windows Insider Program in Japan and Australia, and in English in Canada and India.

And later this year, Cortana will be available to Windows Insiders in Brazil and Mexico, and in French in Canada.
