On Thursday, May 31st, Norwegian developer Opera Software announced that it rolled out Opera Mini 7 for feature phones and touted the fact that the mobile browser makes these devices smarter. The main new features that Opera Mini 7 brings to J2ME (Java phones), BlackBerry and S60 devices are: it removes the limit on how many speed dials you can create and in introduced the new Smart Page.

With previous editions of Opera Mini you were limited to only 7 speed dials. Opera Software improved the speed dial feature in Opera Mini 7 and now there is no such limitation – with Opera Mini 7 you can put as many shortcuts as you want on the Speed Dial Screen.

The new Smart Page that Opera Mini 7 introduces provides easy access to popular content, favorite sites, and social networks. With Smart Screen you have easy access to popular social networking sites Facebook and popular micro-blogging site Twitter right in the first screen of the browser. You also get instant updates from your favorite sites, and you’re presented with news, weather, entertainment and sports highlights when you launch the browser. All the functionality the new Smart Page has to offer, Opera Software explained, is meant to offer feature phine users the best internet experience.

Opera Software CEO Lars Boilesen had the following to say about the new Smart page:
“I’ve spent hours typing web addresses on my mobile phone, but now there’s a super smart way to get most of your content at a glance. With Smart Page, you just open the browser, and the content is right beside your Speed Dial shortcuts in the start screen for you to skim through — super practical, super time-saving and super smart. I guess that’s why the product team called it Smart Page.”
