The development team behind the popular Flock browser – built on the Firefox codebase, but developed so as to address the users’ social networking needs – has announced the availability of Flock 2.5, an update that gives the software enhanced functionality.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Flock, Shawn Hardin, explains: “At Flock, we love to hear from you. We want to make sure that Flock continues to help you discover, enjoy and share the relationships and content you’re passionate about. So while you’ve been talking, we’ve been listening. The result is a new version of Flock that reflects the new ways you want to use your favorite social browser along with two of your favorite networks—Twitter and Facebook. The new version that we’re releasing today lets you keep your finger on the pulse of your social networks, yet it gives you the freedom to explore online without having to click back and forth between websites, tabs, applications and content.”

Version 2.5 of the Flock web browser now lets you take Facebook Chat with you on your internet travels; no matter where your online browsing takes you, Flock and Facebook Chat are right there with you. There is a bonus too: you can seamlessly drag and drop images, videos, links and text into your chats.

The content sharing functionality is not limited to Facebook, explains Shawn Hardin. Thanks to the People Sidebar in Flock 2.5, you can drag and drop online content (images, videos, URLs) onto the sidebar and the content is shared via Twitter, MySpace, and other social networking sites alongside the previously mentioned Facebook. On top of this, MyWorld now provides Twitter Search functionality.

Alongside improved support for Facebook and Twitter, there is also a new feature called FlockCast, which is described by Shawn Hardin as “an effortless way to share information across your social networks”. “With FlockCast, you can broadcast anything from blog posts and picture uploads to Tweets and MySpace status updates directly to your Facebook profile,” he added. “And when you share a URL in a Twitter message, Flock automatically shortens the URL.”

Here is a little recap of the new bits Flock 2.5 has to offer:
- You can read Twitter replies in the Flock sidebar and you can save Twitter searches. The sidebar also provides the option to reply to various tweets and click on any link provided in a tweet.
- Twitter Search support added to MyWorld.
- Use Facebook Chat no matter what web page you visit.
- Drag and drop content (videos, photos, URLs) to share it.
