Compared to the 4th generation iPad, the recently introduced and new iPad Air is a lot thinner and lighter. 20% thinner and 28% lighter to be precise.

And since we’re talking about percentages, it must be mentioned that the new iPad Air has a 43% narrower bezel. Apple touted that this will translate into a more immersive visual experience.

On Tuesday, October 22, Apple announced that the 10th major version of its desktop operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, has been rolled out to the public. On the same date Apple introduced a new version of its iPad tablet – a thinner, lighter and more powerful version called iPad Air.

iPad Air – Main Features
  • The iPad Air weighs just one pound. It is 20% thinner, 28% lighter, and has a 43% narrower bezel (compared to the 4th gen iPad).
  • 9.7 inch Retina display.
  • Apple-designed A7 chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture. Compared to previous generations, you now get up to twice the CPU and graphics performance.
  • Thanks to the new power-efficient A7 chip, the battery is smaller. This helps reduce the overall volume by 24%. Mind you, you still get 10-hour battery life and lots of performance.
  • For improved power efficiency, the M7 motion coprocessor handles data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass.
  • Ultrafast wireless with faster built-in WiFi and expanded LTE cellular connectivity.
  • Next generation FaceTime HD camera with improved backside illumination sensors.
  • Powered by iOS7.
  • Colors: silver and space gray.
  • Suggested retail price for WiFi models: $499 for the 16GB model, $599 for the 32GB model, $699 for the 64GB model and $799 for the 128GB model.
  • Suggested Retail price for the WiFi + Cellular models: $629 for the 16GB model, $729 for the 32GB model, $829 for the 64GB model and $929 for the 128GB model.

The new iPad Air will go on sale on the 1st of November, 2013.

“iPad created an entirely new mobile computing experience, and the new iPad Air is another big leap ahead. It is so thin, light and powerful, once you hold one in your hand you will understand what a tremendous advancement this is,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPad Air with its 9.7-inch Retina display weighs just one pound and packs the incredible performance of iOS 7 running on a 64-bit desktop-class Apple A7 chip, and delivers all-day battery life in the lightest full-sized tablet in the world.”
